          Yeah, well it was faster and cheaper than the broadband available to us. It was 7 mb compared to 5 mb, plus the town is really small so there is only so far we can be from the source, and the dedicated line is fairly nice. Plus, my friend thinks xbox live really does work better with dsl for some reason, though I can't see why it would be...

                    oh, downstream is what carries data to your computer, upstream carries data from your computer.

                    so in the gaming world this means movements you make on your computer/console are carried by the upstream to the server, which sends back the resulting action (on the server) to your computer.

                        dsl isn't necessarily "better" for gamers, but it does have a larger upstream in general. It's more noticeable for things like sharing torrents and what not.
