Intro

Metal Gear solid 2 was a very good game. I picked it up along with MGS 1 and 3 in the compilation that came out earlier this year and really enjoyed it. Continuing the story from Metal Gear Solid 1, it featured a new character to play as: Raiden. While it apparently got some crticism for this, I didn't mind at all, and enjoyed the game a lot.

Graphics 9|10

For being as old as this game is, it has stood the test of time graphically very well. The graphics are crisp, and really add to the element of the game. From well designed enemies, to beautiful scenery, to dark areas to sneak around in, this series definitely does the job. The weapons are well designed, and I really like the way that the Metal Gears looked. Overall, it was a very good game, graphically.

Sound 8|10

The sound in this game was very good. It had good sound effects that are well placed, and add to the overall feel of the game, but I have to say that the soundtrack did not stand out as something really awesomely good. It was nowhere near bad, just not as good as it could be so it gets an 8 for sound.

Controls 9|10

The controls in Metal Gear Solid 2 differed very slightly from MGS1 as the view migrated from true top down to a slightly behind angle. While this takes some getting used to as you go from 1 to 2, it is not bad at all. I enjoyed movement, and there were no spots that were really frustrating.

Story 10|10

This game had one of the best written stories imaginable. As you play as Raiden, which encompasses the vast majority of the game (you only play as Snake in the prologue), the story progresses very similarly to the storyline and plot of MGS1, yet there are enough twists and good characters thrown in that it is just as good a story as 1, and leads very well into the continuation of the story in MGS4.

This was one of the most fun games I have played this year. It is hard to choose which MGS game is the best, and this one has all the qualities to be the best. From good gameplay to an awesome story to easy controls, it is easily one of the games out there I I will always remember how much I enjoyed playing it.

Replay 7|10

This game was enjoyable, and had a very good story, but the replay value for me wasn't as much as it was for MGS 1 or 3. While I enjoyed playing it, I wouldn't really go back to play it again for any reason other than story because I enjoyed aspects of the other 2 games more. I will enjoy my next runthrough, but it won't be for quite a while.
