Devil May Cry is an excellent series that has inspired quite a fan base. Devil May Cry 4 has lived up to its expectations and is a great game.

In the game, you play as both Dante, the main character throughout the series, and Nero, a new character. The storyline is the basic humans summon demons for power/control and the valiant heroes must save the day. There were a couple interesting ideas that helped the plot, but overall it was a formula plot. Despite this fact, the plot was enjoyable enough to play through several times and still be enjoyable.

You start as Nero investigating for the order of knights he is in, and then you switch to Dante later as you continue playing. The controls for both characters feel good, with each character requiring a slightly different strategy to use and raise your style ranking. As Nero you use his Devil Bringer to grab enemies and bring them towards you to attack. It also activates special attacks against bosses when you use it. Dante's specialty on the other hand is his use of different styles to take down the demons. He gets different weapons after beating the bosses, and they add an interesting aspect to the game play.

As you progress through the game you earn proud souls which you can use to purchase different skills to use. When you buy a skill the prices for other skills rise, and when you sell skills the prices go lower. This adds another strategic element to the game as some levels are easier with different skills. In addition, some of the skills are needed to get secrets in the game, meaning if you don't have them equipped you will need to go through the level again (which you will do anyways as there are multiple difficulty ratings ranging from "Human" to "Dante Must Die." The only real flaw with this system is the fact that you have to buy the skill to run which is a little annoying and should have come standard.

The graphics and sound in the game were wonderfully done. The in-game graphics look great. There are several landscape scenes that look amazing, most notably those of a waterfall and a forest. The detail is so great that they almost look like real images. In addition, the soundtrack was extremely well put together, and had many different styles of music ranging from hard rock to classical vocals. The music is great and fits in well with the cut scenes.

This game turned out very well, and I only had one complaint with it: the camera can be horrible. It usually is not much of a problem, but at times it can kill you. The most common problem with the camera is when you are running, the sudden camera changes can stop you and make you wait to get back up to speed. Other, more problematic times are when you are in battle at the edge of the screen and either can't see all your enemies or constantly switch screens and can't get oriented. The camera also stopped behind an enemy at one point and I had to fight the entire battle looking through a black veil.

Despite the camera flaws the game is a great game. It is highly re-playable and is fun to play. Overall I give the game an 8.6.
