I recently bought the metal gear compilation as I had never played any of the metal gear games and one of my friends ɤWeapongod30 insisted day after day that they are some of the best games in existence. So when I heard the compilation was coming out I decided it was worth the 30 bucks (and a couple missed grades at school) and picked it up. I was very glad. I had more fun than I'd had playing a game in a long time. The only thing I lament is the fact that it still required a PS1 memory card, which I had forgotten to pick up when I was at home, and had no way to save it and had to play it on one go, and thus missed all of the saving comments.

The graphics in this game were very good, especially considering how old the game is. All the levels looked very good, and the cutscenes were very well done. I enjoyed playing the game, and I barely felt it's nearly ten years while playing it. I am definitely looking forward to my next playthrough whenever I find my memory card.

Soundwise, the game had nothing wrong with it, but on the other hand the music wasn't as good as in the rest of the series. The music was good, but it wasn't as wonderful as it could have been. The other sounds were well placed though, and made this game very entertaining to listen to.

This game took awhile for me to get used to, but once I did it was very easy to control. The game took a top down approach to the gameplay, and it helped with many problems that are wrong with other styles such as with the camera. Once I started playing the game I fell in love. I had reservations, but it turned out to be as good as everyone said. The only thing that slightly annoyed me was the fact that you could only have one item equipped, as if it's impossible to use body armor and a key card at the same time.

This game had one of the best stories I've seen in a game. In the game, Solid is taken out of retirement to stop a terrorist takeover at a military base in Alaska that is testing the most recent iteration of Metal Gear (walking bipedal tanks with nuclear capabilities). Snake is aided by his former teacher Master Miller, as well as his former commander Roy Campbell, and a variety of other characters. Along the way he meets Meryl, a Foxhound member that was against the takeover and imprisoned. The story makes sense, and sets the stage for all the games to come. The villain, Liquid Snake, was portrayed and written so well that he was named as one of the best video game villains of all time.

This game was extremely enjoyable to play. I had fun every minute of it. The stealth aspect of the game was different, and led to very fun play. Usually when I play any games that have guns I like to just run and gun, a problem especially with tactical games. But in this game that is a definite no-no in this game. Not being stealthy is one way to get yourself killed very quickly in this game, and the stealthy element of the game mixed things up a bit and made it a very fun game to play.

This game is very replayable, especially with the alternate endings, and the special items you can get with the two different endings. Unfortunately, the replay value is hurt by the fact that it requires an original memory card to keep all the bonuses, which is hard to obtain for someone just coming into video games now, and did not previously own a ps1 memory card.
